Healthy Eating update
As a school we constantly strive to promote healthy eating through curricular subjects, specific events and the school meals service. Recently at a full school assembly the students and staff were treated to a very visual display of different types of food.
The assembly related the story of food from biblical to current times through a vareity of stories, displays of food and interesting facts. Students were also astounded when presented with actual facts and figures of their spending on a variety of sweets, drinks, crisps and chocolate bars – a significant contribution to ASDA and Tesco profits!
Assuming a person spends £3 per day on sweets, this translates to £15 per week (school days) and £780 per year! Enough to buy a flight and ticket to the World Cup in South Africa, 78 CDs or sponsor the entire needs of 3 children in a poorer country for 2 years.
Three healthy eating hampers were on display and two classes had the opportunity to win these. Well done to 9CB and 10EE. The third hamper was presented to the Children’s Ward of the Erne hospital. Our thanks to the School Meals staff, Mr Peter Stuart, Tesco and ASDA for their contribution to the hampers.
